How to Get Comments On Your Blog

Besides having flagship content, pillar articles, killer articles, traffic, and monetizing strategies, most bloggers still want their readers to leave comments as often as they read the posts. In my search for blogs with comments, I find that most blogs I visit have comments. Some blogs require a registration before anyone can post comments; on the other hand, some blogs allows anyone to post comments with minimal effort. This means the only requirement to post comment is a name and an email address.

This post asks the question, “How to Get Comments on your Blog?” After reading this post you you’ll get some ideas on how to get more comments; you may also have questions or suggestions of your own too. I welcome your participation.

I’ve written a few decent short posts and a few long ones which I believe provide useful information for my readers. However, the comments responses I’ve gotten so far are not what I had hoped for. I know I have decent traffic coming to my blog; I’m monitoring where my traffic is coming from.

How do you get readers to comment on your blog?

When you visit blogs, you’ll notice that some has lots of comments while some has little or no comments at all. Why is that? That’s a question I’ve been trying to figure out since I started my blogs.

Obviously, there are numerous ways to get readers to comment on your blog. However, if you’re serious about finding ways for readers to leave comments on your post, these are seven ways to potentially get more readers to leave comments on your blog.

  1. Write content that help readers to solve problem(s)
  2. Leave comments on blogs that left comments on yours.
  3. Seek out blogs that relates to yours and post comments.
  4. Link to blogs with relevant content to yours.
  5. You could link to other blogs in some of your posts
  6. Ask relevant and unique questions on some of your posts.
  7. Try to interact with as many comments as possible on your blog.

Bonus Tip Make it easy for readers to leave comments. Don’t make readers have to log on to leave a comment.

Do you think Bloggers should stoop this low to get comments on their blogs? In order to get comments on your blog, should you:

  • bribe readers to leave comments?
  • offer them freebies for their participation?
  • beg family members, co-workers and friends to post comments?
  • pay readers for each comment?
  • threaten readers to leave comments or block their IP address?
  • make a small donation when someone comments?
  • hope and pray someone will feel sorry for you and leave comments?
  •

    Conclusion
Have you tried any of the above techniques mentioned to get comments on your blogs?
If so, could you share some  with us here? Finally, should blogs have comments?

Do you care whether people leave comments or not?

    Blog Mentors

What is a mentor? In general, a mentor is an expert in a particular niche that teaches, influences, or tutors novice. Now, a Blog mentor is a Pro Blogger that has been there and done that. This means that he or she may have a few years under his or her belt blogging for a living.

How to Find Blog Mentors? There are many different ways to find mentors to guide you with your blogging. However, I believe networking is one of the easiest ways to find mentors. Don’t be afraid to talk to your peers and ask questions. Visit some of your favorite blogs where you often leave comments.
Chances are you could find a mentor from one of your favorite blogs.

Make every effort to choose your mentors wisely. In other words, you should take advice from mentors with good track record. For example, if you reside in the US and is planning to invest in real estate in the Island of Jamaica, obviously you would seek advice from someone that had prior experience in real estate investment in that area.

Examples of Blog Mentors At the time of writing this post, I consider myself an intermediate Blogger, and not a mentor. I see Bloggers like Daniel Scocco, Darren Rowse, Chris Garrett, Yaro Starak, and Lisa Irby as Blog mentors. These Bloggers have established Blogs with tremendous traffic and readership; they also make a decent living from their blogs.

Benefits of Blog Mentors Even though it’s possible to find mentors that are willing to part with useful information for free, many mentors charge consultation fee. Fees vary from blogger to blogger.

Conclusion Don’t be scared to take action. Take as many notes as possible from your mentor. Jot down as many information as possible. If you communicate with your mentor via email, think of all the questions you would like to ask your mentor and submit them.

Are you currently working with a Blog mentor?

    What is a Blog

Asking questionEven though the term “blog” has been around since April 1999, there are still some readers and Bloggers that don’t understand what blog means. Therefore, after reading this post, you should have a firm understanding of what a blog is; you’ll also learn about the different types of blogs people create.

What is a Blog? According to Wikipedia, “A blog (a contraction of the term “web log”) is a type of website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order.”

To understand what a blog is, think of a blog as a diary or journal people use to keep records of their daily activities – A blog is basically a website (weblog) where individuals or bloggers post or upload images, videos, articles or posts to their blogs daily, weekly or as often as they choose.

There are many different types of blogs including political, personal, finance, writing, design, reviews, games, gossip, news and more. This blog you’re reading now is a personal blog by Peter A. Brown. That’s me. It’s a blog that provides useful information for beginners looking for tips and ideas on blogging and home based business opportunities. Let’s move on.

In most cases, blogs are displayed in reverse- chronological order; this means the most recent post is usually on top of the page. However, the blogger also has the option to keep the most recent posts at the bottom of the page.

    Facts about blogs
One of the cool things about blogs is that it allows interactivity with the readers. Readers often have the opportunity to leave comments, and participate in polls on the blogs (website) they visit.

With the click of a mouse, visitors could also share their favorite blogs with friends and relatives on any social networking sites.

    Conclusion
Two great examples of successful blogs are The Huffington Post which is a political blog, and Problogger.net which is a personal blog. These are two different blogs that attract different audience, yet they both have huge readership and a large following.

To increase your chances of running a successful blog, try not to focus on what is popular now, but more on the topics or things you’re passionate and knowledgeable about. Blogging can also be a lot of fun once you know what you’re doing.

Conclusion – How to Write a Conclusion

There are many effective articles published that doesn’t contain conclusions.
However, while conclusions may not be popular in many blogs or articles, it’s still a useful tool to use in some content. If your article contains over 300 words, you should consider using a conclusion. On the other hand, if you wrote a short article of about 100 words or less, a conclusion may not be necessary.

Your conclusion could just be a summary of a blog or article you wrote.
You accomplish this by telling the readers what the article/blog is about in a few sentences. You could also say a conclusion simply sums up the whole story in a few sentences.

By the way, have you read “Tips For Beginning Writers?” It’s the first tip in this series. You can read it here.

You be the judge. Do you think conclusions are necessary at all times?

    Spell Check And Edit

What’s the last thing you should do before you upload your articles to your own website or an article directory? Why should you spell check? These are good questions. This post will answer these questions.

Beginning writers often make the mistake of editing while writing. This habit should be avoided. When you constantly edit while you write, you break up your thoughts. No matter how trivial the information is, make your writing flow naturally. In the end, you’ll just have more words to edit. Hey, you may have to get rid of some words too.

Spell check and edit is crucial to your credibility. When your article is filled with many grammatical errors, your audience is often turned off – A writer should also know the difference between there and their. I’ve seen many well-written articles with errors that made me say, huh!
Do yourself and your loyal readers a favor, spell check and edit before you publish.

    How do you spell check?
Many popular writing software comes with built in spell checker.
If you’re using Microsoft word 2003, go to tools and select spelling and grammar.
Another way to spell check is to hit the F7 key on your keyboard.
If you’re using Microsoft Word 2007, click the review button on the top in the middle section of word. Move your mouse to the extreme top left hand side, click spelling. It’s that simple. Next chapter:

    Outlines- How to create outline

An outline is like a road map. You use it to guide you on the right path. Think about a path when you think of an outline; this will get you in the right frame of mind. In a nut-shell, by creating an outline, it helps you to organize your thoughts and ideas when writing.

Here’s an example of a good outline. Someone hired you as a Ghost Writer; your assignment is to write a 300-word article on the history of Reggae Music.

Your outline could look like this.

Origination of Reggae What country was Reggae originated from? You could write a few sentences by answering the first question and elaborate on it. You could include the year Reggae music was created? Talk also about the first Reggae song that was recorded and which artist recorded it. Mention a few names of the artist that started it all.

Here you could talk about the achievements of Reggae pioneers like Bob Marley and the Wailers, Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer and others. Keywords-How to Choose Keyword

Do you know how to find the best keywords for your article? Do you know how to use them in your content? In order for people to find your articles on the Internet, they either type in a single word or a phrase to search.

To maximize results from your articles, make sure the keywords you choose, are words or phrases that people search for daily.

Keyword Tool As a beginner, there’s no need to purchase any keyword software at this time. There are several free Keyword tools available online to help you find the right keywords for your content.

You can try any one of these free keyword search tools.

    https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

    http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com.

I prefer to use the Google Keyword search tool.

How do I use the keywords? Look at this example. I used the word “soccer.” According to Google, “soccer” is searched for over 30,000,000 times per month. That’s a lot of search times. Do you agree? I also found some more keyword suggestion phrases; they are related to soccer and searched for over 1000 times per month. I’ll save these words as a keyword list to use in the article.

You could now target your article in this direction. Example, your article could be about where to find the best prices on soccer gears; you could now include keyword phrases from your keyword list. Your keyword phrases would be soccer protective gear, soccer net, soccer bag, and soccer ball in your article. Once you have these keywords, just sprinkle them throughout your article.

I hope you find how to choose keywords helpful. Next chapter:
